Project Description

Turners puddle heath is a 14h piece of heathland in need of restoration. It is currently overgrown with gorse, birch and rhododendron with the aim of restoring the heathland creating a balanced age range of dwarf scrub,  burning, cutting and removing a number of patches each year.  Clearing and opening up the bridleway for improved public access and to encourage the spread of the rare plant Pale Heath Dog Violet. The future of this site will be maintenance by a local herd of grazing cattle, and continued removal of invasive plants.

Sam Jackson Purbeck Ranger said “This work is vital to restore Turnerspuddle Heath back to its former glory. Volunteers are essential for this work and we are looking forward to working closely with the community for the benefit of the heathland.”

The work parties will meet every Thursday from the 18th of October, the day will start at 9am and run until 2pm at Turnerspuddle Heath. Training, equipment and tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring suitable clothing and footwear.
